Legal Update
On The Job

Legal Update On The Job is a web-based video series with a new program every quarter to keep your officers up-to-date on all the laws/legal decisions they need to know.  Informed officers do a better job enforcing the law, guaranteeing the safety of civilians and themselves and minimizing the risk of lawsuits. The programs feature video simulations of real-life simulations to make sure the lessons are driven home effectively and clearly.

  •  Police officers can do these training sessions by themselves while on shift in the station house – if interrupted, the program will remember where they left off.  Training on-shift frees you from the expense and disruptions of leave time, travel costs and cumbersome schedule changes.
  • Best of all, these programs are affordable -- $49.95 per officer per year for all four programs.  That’s a year’s training for about the total cost of one hour of an officer’s overtime pay!
  • The programs are backed by thoughtfully designed, easy to use features that let the officer concentrate on learning rather than fussing with the web.  Each program has a built-in test, provides a certificate of completion to both the officer and the training officer, records the officer’s performance in a record-keeping database, and allows the officer to print out slides and other information for review at the touch of a button.
  •  It’s all secure and password protected.

Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) of College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, IL and the College of DuPage Press have teamed up to offer these high quality programs.  They feature Linda S. Pieczynski (former DuPage County Illinois Assistant States Attorney), currently a municipal prosecutor and author of numerous books and articles including Illinois Criminal Practice and Procedure 2nd and Roll Call News (a newsletter for law enforcement officers).  She is joined by Ray Byrne, Chief of the Lombard, Illinois Police to bring the viewpoints of a lawyer and a working police officer together.

And remember, we know these are tough budget years – that’s why we find web-based training is the best value going.  But let us help you more – if you want to order, but need to make special payment arrangements, just call Jim Kempinski at the SLEA office (630 942 3677) and talk to him about it.  We believe in this program and once you use it, you will too.
